Australia's chief selector the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in the upcoming Ashes series.

He revealed that the captain is progressing and felt positive about his chances of participating.

"We're encouraged. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a significant role. With luck starting in Perth. Otherwise, we'll reassess."
Previous Setbacks
Cummins was ruled out Australia's limited-overs series against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.
He has a history of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons causing him to miss three Australian summers in four years.

He mentioned that there was no confirmation if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but admitted it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.
Contingency Plans

All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against the Asian giants as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.
He labeled it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to be ready to bowl."
"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to be available for the initial game as an dual-role player," he elaborated.
"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs regardless. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we opted to take a cautious route."
